Key achievements:

  • Seconded to South32 as a study manager for Wessels and Mamatwan mines in the Northern Cape. 

  • Managing Ukwazi Process & Project Delivery as the specialist consultant to complete a concentrate drying PFS to handle Manganese Fines concentrate from the processinh plant. 

  • The intention of the PFS is to convert the concentrate fines into a salable product which can be sold to the market, and saving the water in the process.

PROJECT | Kopaneng Shaft Underground Bunkers

Client: Sibanye Stillwater
Role: Senior Project Manager (South32 Owners Team)

Project Value: ZAR 15million

Key achievements:

  • Completed the detailed engineering & design of Bunkers No. 8 & 9 underground shuttle conveyor and withdrawal conveyor. The work entailed the 2D and 3D drawings issued for construction drawings, including civil, structural, steelwork, mechanical equipment and electrical & instrumentation.

  • This project work entailed co-ordination with Conticon and Steel Trading, as well as with mine personnel, to complete the scope of work.

PROJECT | Garatau Platinum Mine – Front End Engineering & Design

Client: Zijin Engineering / Nkwe Platinum Mine
Role: Senior Project Manager (South32 Owners Team)

Project Value: ZAR 1billion

Key achievements:

  • Completing the Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) for a twin vertical shaft system comprising a Rock Shaft (Ø7.4m) for Merensky and UG2 to a depth of 850m and a Services Shaft (Ø6.7m) for Men and Material to a depth of 810m. The design is based on a feasibility completed by Zijin Engineering in 2023.   

  • The FEED comprises the shaft design criteria, geotechnical, civil, and structural engineering, ventilation and ore handling from the shaft bottom to the battery limit at the processing plant on surface.

PROJECT | South Deeps Gold Mine – Techno-Economic Assessment

Client: Gold Fields Australia
Role: Senior Project Manager (South32 Owners Team)

Project Value: ZAR 16billion

Key achievements:

  • Completing a Techno-Economic Assessment for Gold Fields Australia. Bara Consulting completed a Pre-Feasibility Study for the future expansion of the South Deeps Mine located close to Westonaria/Fochville in Gauteng.

  • The assessment entails the peer review of all the disciplines from mining, ventilation and refrigeration, backfilling, capex, opex, risk assessment and compiling a full report for review and acceptance by Gold Fields as the Owner of South Deeps Mine.

Letšeng Diamond Mine (Kingdom of Lesotho)

  • Completing a full tender process for a mining contractor to go into execution phase.

  • Project is not going into execution phase due to unfavorable economic evaluation.

Leeuwkop Shaft Project

  • The project did not go ahead due to the high capital estimate and the client not not have an appetite for a 10-year project.
